Chair Leisen called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., due to Open Houses scheduled during
the usual 6 p.m. start time.

Youth Commissioner Christenson moved, Commissioner Nagel seconded to approve the
minutes of the Special Work Session Meeting dated April 24, 2026, and the meeting
minutes of April 28, 2026, as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried

Luke Kegley, Recreation Supervisor, reviewed the concession stand and watercraft rental facility
availability at Lake Ann Park. He discussed the Summer Concert Series at Lake Ann Park. He
provided a summary of the waterfront programming and picnic shelter reservations.
Chair Leisen asked about the fees for the pavilion and how much neighboring communities
charge. Mr. Kegley responded that the prices were justified compared to other cities.
2. 2026 Summer Youth Programs Preview
Priya Wall, Recreation Manager, reviewed the youth programs offered by the Chanhassen Park
& Recreation Department. Programs are available for different age ranges, including preschool,
youth, teens, and special events.
Commissioner Wittl asked about the demand for toddler programs for ages younger than three.
Ms. Wall answered that often the age range starts at three because of independence from parents.
Jerry Ruegemer, Park and Recreation Director, answered that often two-year-olds are not potty
trained, so they do not offer activities for that age range.
Ms. Wall stated that they offer a tot time for the two-year-old age range.
Commissioner Wittl said that he participated in other activities for toddlers in other communities
where the parents were actively involved, such as soccer.
Youth Commissioner Christenson asked about the sessions that were half-full at Lake Ann. Ms.
Wall answered that most of the individuals on the wait list were for week three.
Youth Commissioner Christenson asked about the swimming situation at Lake Ann Camp. Ms.
Wall responded that Lake Ann lost lifeguards in 2024 due to insurance issues with the school.
The city tried to hire lifeguards in-house, which was unsuccessful. Lake Ann Camp was trying to
utilize other water activities.
Commissioner Wittl asked for more information on the water activities. Ms. Wall responded that
the activities included boating, fishing, super soaker fights and the slip-and-slide.
Commissioner Hanson asked about an opportunity to offer duplicate sessions or stations all at the
same time, as August can be a difficult timeframe for parents with childcare. Ms. Wall answered
that the summer discovery play program staff also work at Lake Ann Adventure Camp. They
have difficulty with increased staffing hours in the final weeks.
Commissioner Hanson questioned whether other cities or counties had solutions for the lifeguard
issues. Ms. Wall responded that Minnetonka Schools provided lifeguard contracts for the county

as well. They reached out to private companies as well but the organizations’ insurance would
not cover lifeguards off-site.
Chair Leisen noted that the micro-trend in other cities was to go without lifeguards. Mr.
Ruegemer said that they tried to up the rates for the lifeguards but did not experience success. He
stated there was a national lifeguard shortage.
3. Recommend Purchase for Playground Equipment Replacement for Stone Creek Park
Mr. Ruegemer reviewed the opportunity to purchase and install new playground equipment at
Stone Creek Park and supplemental playground equipment at Carver Beach Park. He noted that
they had good conversations with residents at the Carver Beach and Stone Creek neighborhood
meetings on May 26, 2026.
Chair Leisen suggested getting together the two to three options and getting it to a sub-
committee.
Mr. Ruegemer said that residents were aware of the budget and how that would impact which
playground equipment could be selected. He said he would work with Mike to get options out
via email to the residents who attended the meetings to receive feedback.
Commissioner Nagel voiced appreciation for the process. Mr. Ruegemer said that it was a unique
situation to install supplemental playground equipment at Carver Beach Park.
Mr. Ruegemer said that most residents appreciated option C for Stone Creek Park. He noted that
most residents preferred the option from Northland Recreation. He noted that he held out
$10,000 for engineered wood fiber, along with $75,000 for the playground equipment at Stone
Creek Park.
Commissioner Wittl voiced appreciation for the online attendance option. He asked about the
option with Northland Recreation and why they could provide more. Mr. Ruegemer responded
that it could be pricing within their structure. All contractors were given a $75,000 budget within
their request for proposal, but contractors can determine how they get to that point.
Chair Leisen asked about how much they have worked with the other vendors over the last five
years. Mr. Ruegemer provided a summary of the projects with the vendors and said that
Northland received about 80 percent of the work.
Commissioner Fulkerson moved, Commissioner Nagel seconded to approve the Park and
Recreation Commission Staff’s recommendation to the City Council to approve the 2026
Park Playground Equipment Replacement for Stone Creek Park Option C Northland for
$75,000. All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 6 to 0.

COMMISSION MEMBER COMMITTEE REPORTS:
1. Civic Campus Sub-Committee Update
Commissioner Nagel said that the sub-committee would recommend grand opening events be
held during the week of August 24th. She stated that there was interest in a musical vendor
option, but the grass might not be ready. If the grass was not ready, they would recommend a
larger-scale event in 2027. She asked when they would know if the grass would be ready for a
musical event. She requested that one or two more commissioners join the subcommittee.
Mr. Ruegemer said that they had been working with the project completion team to better
understand the schedule. He said that there were different factors, such as the weather. They had
little room for error to achieve the July 1 deadline.
Chair Leisen suggested not holding an event if it could not be done well. He suggested a smaller,
family-oriented event this year and a larger event next year.
Ms. Wall suggested that the staff could provide status updates on the project at the June and July
meetings.
Chair Leisen asked about the August event time frame. Ms. Wall answered that the city was
partnering with Market Square the week before on a musical event and the week after was Labor
Day, so the week of August 24 was the best option.
Chair Leisen encouraged commissioners to consider involvement in the sub-committee. He
asked if they needed volunteers for the Summer Concert Series. Ms. Wall responded that she
would send out emails with volunteer opportunities for the summer.

Item 4th of July Celebration Preview

SUMMARY
The City of Chanhassen's 43rd Annual 4th of July Celebration will be held on July 2, 3 and 4 in
downtown Chanhassen. Participation levels can reach up to 70,000 throughout the three-day
celebration.
BACKGROUND
DISCUSSION
The 43rd Annual 4th of July Celebration will be held Thursday, July 2 through Saturday, July 4. All
activities on July 2 and 3 will take place at City Center Park and Chanhassen High School, with the 4th
of July activities taking place at City Center Park and Lake Ann Park.
July 1 & Xfinity Sponsorship (Bonus Day!)
For the second year, as part of their sponsorship and involvement, Xfinity will be presenting a Movie in
the Park event on Wednesday, July 1. This free event will include a showing of National Treasure and
free movie theatre candy and popcorn. Thank you to Xfinity for providing the logistical support and in-
kind donations to make this event possible for our community.
In addition to the Movie in the Park event, Xfinity is generously supporting the event by sponsoring this
year's street dance stage and fireworks display. Xfinity has donated $15,000 to support both of these
events.

July 2
Family Fun Night at the carnival will take place on July 2 from 3-10 p.m. at City Center Park. All rides
from 3-8 p.m. will be $3. The Family Fun Night allows families to enjoy the carnival and other family
activities without the noise and crowds of the street dance and beer garden.
New this year, the Rotary Club of Chanhassen will be hosting the Beer Garden from 3-8 p.m. on Family
Night. The Rotary will also be offering dirty sodas for purchase for a non-alcoholic beverage option.
July 3
Activities, games, and events for people of all ages will be available on July 3; most held at City Center
Park from 3-11 p.m. These include carnival rides, kiddie games, kiddie parade, the SouthWest Metro
Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, Taste of Chanhassen and Beer Garden (presented by the Rotary
Club of Chanhassen), live music and more. The annual street dance will be held from 5:15-11 p.m.,
with Stone Daisy band opening for Good for Gary, the headlining cover band. A full schedule of July 3
events can be found on the attached event flyer. Special thanks to Xfinity for sponsoring the Street
Dance and performance stage, and to Nicolet National Bank for sponsoring this year's kids'
entertainment events!
Due to Civic Campus Phase 2 construction, most events will be hosted in temporary locations within
City Center Park. Some event components, including the llama experience and Water Wars, will not be
part of the 2026 celebration due to logistical constraints. These event components are expected to return
in 2027, when Civic Campus amenities have opened fully and the event returns to a more typical
layout.
July 4
Many family-friendly activities will run on the 4th of July as well, at both Lake Ann Park at City Center
Park. These include two fishing contests, a medallion hunt, a sand sculpture contest, live music, Bingo
and more. The Rotary Club of Chanhassen will present the Taste of Chanhassen, Beer Garden, Classic
Car Show and the 4th of July Parade. The celebration will end with the annual fireworks display at Lake
Ann Park at 10 p.m., which is sponsored by Xfinity and Chanhassen's Community Event Sponsors.
The 4th of July parade, produced by the Rotary Club of Chanhassen, will be held on Saturday, July 4 at
2:30 p.m. The one-mile route begins at the intersection of Kerber Blvd. and Saddlebrook Curve. The
parade will travel south on Kerber Blvd., turn east on West 78th St., and end at the intersection of West
78th St. and Great Plains Blvd., by Chapel Hill Academy. The parade will travel on the north side of
Kerber, running in reverse of the typical direction of traffic. As in past years, the parade will kick off
with historic planes flying over downtown Chanhassen, produced by the Rotary Club of Chanhassen.
The City of Chanhassen is partnering with many organizations and departments to create a safe and
enjoyable festival. The Carver County Department of Public Health will provide Responsible Beverage
Server Training to those involved in the selling and serving of beer during the celebration. The KaiBi
Mobile Hospitality Suite will provide a private, climate-controlled indoor space for families to nurse
and change young children. Deputies from the Carver County Sheriff's Department will be present
throughout the festival, as well as representatives from Chanhassen Fire, who will provide general first
aid response throughout the event. The city's Park Maintenance department will provide overall event
support and create a safe and welcoming space, and The Vanella Group will manage garbage and
recycling service at the event.

In addition, the city has partnered with several other organizations including the Rotary Club of
Chanhassen, SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Minnesota Twins to offer activities
during the celebration.
An eight-page magazine was produced and direct-mailed to all residential homes in Chanhassen.
Marketing was also done on social media (Facebook and Instagram), and in local news publications.
The 4th of July Celebration is the most anticipated Chanhassen community event of the year; it is
presented by the City of Chanhassen, Rotary Club of Chanhassen, SouthWest Metro Chamber of
Commerce, and is sponsored by local 2026 Community Event Sponsors.

SUMMARY
The annual Fourth of July Parade will take place on Saturday, July 4 at 2:30 p.m. in downtown
Chanhassen.
The one-mile route begins at the intersection of Saddlebrook Curve and Kerber Blvd. The parade will
travel south on Kerber Blvd., turn east on West 78th St., and end at the intersection of West 78th St. and
Great Plains Blvd., near the entrance to Chapel Hill Academy. The route is a near-replica of the 2025
parade route, with the adjustment of ending at West 78th and Great Plains instead of Great Plains and
Market St. Parade float staging will occur exclusively on Kerber Blvd., with minor adjustments from
2025.
This year's route was determined in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Chanhassen, City Parks &
Recreation, Fire, Public Works, and Engineering Departments, and the Carver County Sheriff's Office,
with hopes of optimizing public safety while maintaining a high-quality spectator experience. Feedback
from the local business community was also considered.

BACKGROUND
The city and the Rotary Club of Chanhassen partner to produce the annual Fourth of July parade, with
the city providing traffic control, public safety management and overall event management. The Rotary
Club manages logistics, coordinates with parade entrants, and manages staging and flow during the
parade.
The parade was added to the Fourth of July Celebration in 1996. With minor adjustments, the parade
route remained consistent from 1996-2023.
In 2024, prompted by road projects and traffic safety concerns along the historical parade route, a new
route was developed for the parade. The three-quarter mile route began at the intersection of Kerber
Blvd and Santa Vera Drive. The parade was to travel south on Kerber Blvd., turn east on West 78th St.,
and end on Market St., past the entrance to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. The parade was to reverse
and travel in the opposite direction from the traditional route.
The primary reason the 2024 parade route was adjusted is that City Pavement Rehabilitation Project
construction was occurring along the traditional route and staging area (Chan View Drive, Iroquois
Circle, West 76th St., and Huron Ave.), making it impossible to run the parade along its traditional
route. A secondary reason was that increased popularity of Fourth of July Celebration events has created
increased vehicle & pedestrian traffic downtown, spurring a desire to consider alternate routes that
could optimize public safety during the parade.
Due to severe weather during the parade staging and parade time, the 2024 parade was canceled. This is
the only time the parade has been canceled in its 28-year history.
With a new route being necessary in 2024, the intention was to use the year as a "trial" to see if the
newly developed route could be successful moving forward. Depending on its success, it would either
become the new parade route, undergo adjustments, or the parade would revert back to the traditional
route. With the cancellation of the 2024 parade due to severe weather, the opportunity to "trial" the new
route was lost.
The 2025 parade route was a near-replica of the proposed 2024 route. It maintained the L-shaped route
that was a focus in 2024, which provided an easier entrance/exit to the downtown area for resident and
emergency vehicles before, during and after the parade. Prompted by the desire for a longer route with
more viewing areas for spectators, the 2025 route added an additional quarter-mile to the 2024 route.
The 2025 route length was 1 mile, which was consistent with comparable parades in the Twin Cities
area.

2024 length: 0.75 mile
2023 length: 1.50 mile
After the 2025 parade, the new route was to be evaluated and reviewed. Depending on its success, the
4th of July Parade route for 2026 and moving forward would remain the same as the 2025 route, be
adjusted, or would revert back to the 2023/traditional route.
DISCUSSION

On evaluating and reviewing the 2025 parade route between city, county, and Rotary Club
representatives, it was determined that the route was a success, and it would be used annually moving
forward. The route optimizes public safety, improves downtown access for emergency response
vehicles and parade attendees and provides sufficient viewing opportunities. One adjustment was made
to improve traffic control, access, and safety, with 2026's parade ending at West 78th and Great Plains
instead of Great Plains and Market St. Parade float staging will again occur exclusively on Kerber Blvd,
with minor adjustments from 2025.
Notification letters and parade maps will be sent to all residential and commercial property owners
along the parade route on June 15, 2026. Letters will also be sent to property owners along the former
2024 route and former 2023/traditional route, to notify them of the change moving forward.
Notification of the route will also be done via digital and print media, on the city website and via city
social media accounts.

SUMMARY
Thank you for hosting the Stone Creek Park neighborhood open house at your Tuesday, May 26
meeting. The neighbors reviewed and voted on the 4 vendor concepts with the Northland Recreation
concept being the clear favorite receiving more than 80% of the vote and that’s what the commission
recommended for approval to the City Council.
Following the open house, the city heard concerns from residents that the Northland Recreation concept
picked lacked play elements for younger children, particularly those under age 5. As a result, the city
has asked Northland Recreation to develop additional concepts with a larger age range of play
opportunities. Another postcard was mailed out with the updated project information, and the
neighborhood will be able to vote again on their preferred concept. The options will include the original
concept and the new concepts. Another open house is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. at
Chanhassen City Hall in the Training Room. If residents can't make it to the meeting and they would
like to vote on the new concept, images will be uploaded and available for viewing from June 18-23
using the QR code to get to the Stone Creek Park project page.
Hopefully this won’t create a lot of extra work with the extra open house. The assumption is many
residents will choose to review the concepts online and the open house will likely have similar numbers
of participants as May.
BACKGROUND

This year's Park Renovation Fund contains $110,000 for a variety of work to be completed as a part of
the city's priorities. The $110,000 budget has been distributed between Stone Creek and Carver Beach
Park for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment, engineered wood fiber, and
associated restoration costs at Stone Creek and supplemental playground equipment at Carver Beach
Park. For Stone Creek, five playground vendors were selected to participate in the RFP process
providing playground equipment designs. Vendors were selected based on past performance and
equipment quality. Four vendors elected to submit proposals for consideration.
Postcards were sent to both the Stone Creek and Carver Beach neighborhoods informing them of the
open houses on Tuesday, May 26. An online option was available for the Stone Creek residents to vote
on a preferred playground design prior to the meeting if they couldn't make the open house. Results
were made available during to the May 26 meeting. The Carver Beach open house was more interactive
with the playground vendor present working through options with neighbors present.
DISCUSSION
After the conclusion of the 2nd Stone Creek Park Open House, the June 23 Park and Recreation
Commission meeting will begin at it's regular time of 6:00pm. The commission will recap and review
the playground concepts, the final vote tally from the open house and from the online votes for Stone
Creek Park. A final recommendation will be sought to forward on to city council for approval.

Dear Sample:
The City of Chanhassen’s 2026 Park Renovation Fund includes the installation of a playground
Park. The park is located at 2250 Stone Creek Lane E, Chanhassen, MN 55317. Your firm is
invited to submit a proposed playground design for installation at Stone Creek Park.
The objective of this RFP is to permit the selection of one design and approved equipment
manufacturer(s). Your proposal will be reviewed by the Stone Creek Park neighborhood who will
select and recommend a preferred design and manufacturer(s) for the site.
The playground RFP is for equipment and installation support only. The playground container
and safety surfacing are not to be included in this proposal. The city will use the existing
container, which will not be expanded, and the city will place the safety surface in the container
upon the project completion. Your playground proposal must include the cost of equipment, tax,
freight and delivery, and installation supervision.

FORM OF RESPONSE
• Written Response: Written responses to the RFP shall include three complete plans and
specifications listing all components for the structure. A three-dimensional representation of
each play structure in a 24 x 36-inch format and a top-view plan are desired. The designs
must include a transfer station and accessible play route and accommodate the use of
engineered wood fiber safety surfacing. All proposals must include warranty information.
Complete written responses must be received by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
• Electronic Response: An electronic copy of the complete proposal package, including plans,
component listing, top view plan, warranty information and three-dimensional drawing must
also be received by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Deliver to
jruegemer@chanhassenmn.gov
• You must also provide mounted 24” x 36” display boards for public viewing at the May 26
Park and Recreation Commission meeting.
SELECTION PROCESS
1. City staff will review each written response to ensure conformity with the RFP.
2. Stone Creek Neighborhood will meet to review proposals at the May 26 Parks and
Recreation Commission Meeting
3. Stone Creek Neighborhood will vote on the preferred proposal. The Parks and Recreation
Commission will recommend approval for the preferred option to the City Council for their
June 8, 2026 meeting.
Designs must comply with all local, state and federal safety and accessibility codes and/or
guidelines.
All proposals are to be prepared at no cost to the City of Chanhassen. All submitted materials
become the property of the City of Chanhassen.

SUGGESTED ACTION
SUMMARY
The 2026 Memorial Day Ceremony was held on Monday, May 25 at the Al Klingelhutz Memorial
Pavilion in Lake Ann Park. This annual event, presented in partnership with the Chanhassen American
Legion Post 580, honors the brave men and women who have died in service to our country. This
marked the second year the ceremony was held at Lake Ann Park, and the location continues to be well-
received, providing scenic surroundings, a covered shelter and ample space for attendees.
The event included morning cemetery services at Leach Cemetery, Chanhassen Pioneer Cemetery, and
St. Hubert’s Cemetery, followed by the formal ceremony at noon. Highlights of the program featured a
keynote address by U.S. Army veteran and educator Miki Huntington, musical performances by the
Chan-O-Laires, and participation from local scout troops and the honor guard. Volunteer-driven golf
carts were utilized to ensure full accessibility to the pavilion.

BACKGROUND
DISCUSSION
The City of Chanhassen partnered with the Chanhassen American Legion Post 580 to present the annual
Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25. This marked the second year the ceremony was held at
the Al Klingelhutz Memorial Pavilion at Lake Ann Park, and the location continues to be well-received
by attendees for its scenic surroundings, natural shade and covered shelter. The event began at 12 p.m.
and was well-attended by community members.

Cemetery Services
Following tradition, the morning began with cemetery services at Leach Cemetery (7:45 a.m.),
Chanhassen Pioneer Cemetery (8:15 a.m.), and St. Hubert’s Cemetery (10:15 a.m.), coordinated and
conducted by the Chanhassen American Legion Honor Guard.
Formal Ceremony
The formal ceremony at the pavilion included:
Posting of the branch flags behind the stage
Keynote address by Miki Huntington, M.A., CPC, and U.S. Army veteran
Musical performances by the Chan-O-Laires, who led the audience in “The Star-Spangled
Banner,” “God Bless America,” “Salute to the Armed Forces” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag”
Invocation and Benediction by Fr. Ralph Talbot of St. Hubert Church
Presentation of the Battlefield Cross display
Final Honors, including a ceremonial rifle salute and the playing of Taps
Accessibility and Amenities
Efforts were made to ensure the ceremony was accessible and comfortable for all guests. Highlights
included:
Volunteer-driven golf cart transport to assist with moving attendees from the parking areas to the
pavilion starting at 11 a.m.
Two ADA units and two standard portable restrooms on site, with a special cleaning scheduled
the morning of the event
Reserved parking for Honor Guard, seniors and performers
Water table provided by the city and the Chanhassen Fire Department
Community Engagement
The Commission on Aging hosted a table featuring “Revitalizing Veterans Dreams,” a local nonprofit
serving veterans. Guests were invited to learn more and donate. Recognition for both the nonprofit and
the Commission was incorporated into the ceremony.
Event Support & Logistics
Audio, staging, skirting and microphones were provided by Festival Sound
Park Maintenance staff provided setup, signage placement and support beginning at 7 a.m.
Directional and reserved parking signage (printed on cardstock for day-of deployment) was
placed throughout the park

Maintain Battlefield Cross and branch flag staging as a strong visual tribute
Maintain volunteer golf cart drivers for park accessibility.

FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS
The Rec Center gymnasium and studio will be closed for floor refinishing July 30-August 14.
REC CENTER EVENTS
The Garden Tool Swap with Carver County Environmental Services was held on Saturday, April 25.
Two volunteers from High School Key Clubs assisted with the pre-swap tool drop-off. 353 garden tools
and miscellaneous items were collected. Despite light rain, 93 people attended the event. The 141 items
that remained at the end were brought to Carver County Environmental Center’s Reuse Room.
On May 8 and 9, the Dance for Fun program held its annual year-end recital at Chanhassen High
School. A total of 99 dancers participated in one or both performances. The recital had strong
attendance with 568 total tickets sold.
Partnering with USA Pickleball, the Rec Center hosted an indoor pickleball party on April 28 to
celebrate National Pickleball Month. 27 players came in for an afternoon of pickleball play, prizes and
fun.
FACILITY RENTALS
From Jan. through mid-June, we have provided 1,334 hours of paid room rentals and supported 1,914
hours of City of Chanhassen use.
PROGRAM UPDATES
The Rec Center Personal Trainer, Juli Al-Hilwani has recorded 178 one-hour sessions in 2026. Training
options include single sessions or 3, 5 or 10 session packages.

In 2026, we transitioned to a new line dance instructor, Holly Tischler. This popular program has
expanded into two levels: beginner and improver. Holly leads an energetic class and has a strong
following throughout the metro area. This flexible class offers participants the option to register for a
six-week session or pay a drop-in fee. So far, 254 participants have dropped into a class and 24 have
registered for the full session.
Rec Center Sports:
Small Fry Sports (ages 3-4) hosted sessions of Track & Field, Soccer and T-ball with a total of 110
participants this spring.
Star Sports (ages 5-7) hosted sessions of Track & Field, Soccer and T-ball with a total of 68
participants.

Senior Center Quarterly Report
April 1- June 30, 2026
The second quarter of the year brought a leadership transition at the Senior Center as Mary Blazain
retired on May 1. Jackie Sorensen began as the new Senior Center Coordinator on April 27, with a brief
overlap to support knowledge transfer. Jackie has spent her first weeks getting to know patrons,
partners, and the rhythms of the Senior Center and the broader Chanhassen community.
Programs and Partnerships
This quarter we partnered with the Chaska Lodge on several trips, including excursions to Treasure
Island, the Ives Theater in Bloomington, the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud and a Senior Synod Band
concert. These trips served a combined total of 320 patrons. On June 11, 24 Chanhassen Senior Center
patrons participated in a SW Transit tutorial and demonstration ride. Participants learned more about
transit offerings including SW Prime's door-to-door services and affordable transportation to destinations
such as the airport and Mall of America. We are exploring additional ways to share this information with
seniors so they can take full advantage of these resources.
Classes and Presentations
This quarter's educational and enrichment offerings included classes in art, chess, defensive driving and
Broadway musicals (in partnership with MacPhail Center for Music). Presentations featured topics such
as the Carver County Fair, Minnesota lilacs, landmark tours and mature makeup techniques. A total of
143 participants attended these activities.
Community Events
One of our most popular annual events, the Lions Club Senior Picnic, was held at the Lake Ann
Klingelhutz Pavilion. The Chanhassen Lions Club generously sponsored the event, providing grilled

burgers and hot dogs and volunteer support. While 189 patrons pre-registered, actual attendance
exceeded 200. The Senior Center's own Chan-Jammers performed for attendees, adding a special
community touch.
Upcoming Programs
Through the summer, the Senior Center will continue to host weekly card and gathering groups.
Upcoming trips include a Lake Minnetonka boat cruise on July 20, a Minnesota Twins game on July 30,
and a Buddy Holly show at the Paramount Theater on August 11. We are partnering with Normandale's
Center for Healing and Wholeness to offer a Matter of Balance series in July and Powerful Tools for
Caregivers in August. In collaboration with Senior Community Services, we will also host a three-part
series on artificial intelligence in August.
Conclusion
The Senior Center remains an important resource for seniors in our community, fostering friendship,
belonging and lifelong learning. We look forward to continuing to grow our programs and partnerships in
the months ahead.

With summer now in full swing, here is a brief update on what the Park Maintenance division has been
working on and what's coming up!
Annual 4th of July celebration preparation is in full swing! Crews are busy assembling signage and
equipment that will be placed throughout the city. Crews have been busy with tree trimming, seeding,
and fertilizing City Center Park over the last few weeks. Maintenance staff will continue to prepare for
one of the city's largest events. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Seasonal staff have been hired for the season, and we are extremely fortunate to have a great group for
the 2026 season! Seasonal staff are responsible for the daily maintenance tasks that are completed
throughout the city which include all mowing, weed whipping, field maintenance, shelter cleaning,
event setup and trash/recycling collection. Seasonal maintenance crews are an integral part of the
success of our division and provide a tremendous service to our community.
All facilities are up and running and the parks have been getting a lot of use! First applications of
fertilizer and broadleaf weed control have been applied to the sports fields. Additional applications to
surrounding areas will be completed as the weather allows.
Maintenance crews have been working on getting the skatepark equipment positioned on the new
asphalt pad as a part of phase II of the civic campus project. The skatepark is scheduled to be open and
ready for use by the 4th of July.
This spring, seniors from Minnetonka and Southwest Christian High School participated in their service
day project. Maintenance crews assisted groups in cleaning up trash, pulling weeds and mulching areas

at Lake Ann Park. Staff would like to pass along a thank you to all the groups that participated in this
project.
