GENERAL BUSINESS:
Commissioner Check-In Sub-Committees
Commissioner Monn shared that he has been communicating with SW Transit and Council
Member Jerry McDonald to learn more about local transit services. Monn would like to educate
Chanhassen’s 55+ community about better utilizing those services. He is coordinating with SW
Transit staff and Mary Blazanin to schedule a field trip demonstration in the spring, giving senior
patrons an opportunity to “test run” the bus routes.
Commissioner Dean is still exploring a date, possibly in March, to hold an advanced directive
preparation training for Carver County Senior Advisory and Commission leaders at the
Chanhassen Senior Center. Kara Cassidy, as well as Ridgedale Medical staff, are collaborating
on the effort.
Update on Applications for City Commission Positions
Mary shared with the Commissioners that applications for City Commission positions have been
opened. Commissioner Mason and Commissioner Solum are up for reappointment, and Mary
explained the process of reapplying.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
Introduction of New Adult Day Center Location/Plans by Local Non-Profit
3
Sarika Patel shared with the Commissioners about her new non-profit, Shasa’s Adult Daycare,
which will be located at 13638 Park Road, Chanhassen, MN 55317. She chose Chanhassen
because she saw a compelling need for this service in Carver County. She has secured a large
space, and her goal is to support seniors with a social community and a welcoming environment.
This will be the only adult day center in Carver County, as many centers closed following
COVID. This day center will have its own transportation to help seniors get to the center.
Carver County Health and Human Services, Office of Aging, Kara Cassidy
Kara provided an update for the Commissioners regarding some of the illnesses being passed
around the community at this time, as well as sharing some information on preventative care.
Chanhassen Senior Center Upcoming Programs, Mary Blazanin
Mary shared details of program plans for the Chanhassen Senior Center in the spring. All the
programs mentioned will be found in the upcoming spring edition of the Chanhassen
Connection.
Senior Community Services Update, LeeAnn Eiden, Social Worker
LeeAnn shared how the caregiver support group is thriving here at Chanhassen, averaging 6-10
caregivers per month. She also shared information on the Memory Café for which she provides
additional support.
Chanhassen Library, Linnea Fonnest
Linnea provided an overview of current and upcoming programs at the Chanhassen Library.
OTHER DISCUSSION
Commissioners discussed non-profit donation options for the 4th of July Bingo event. Mary
suggested finding a Veterans therapy dog training group as recipients this year. Commissioners
voted to approve this avenue and gave Mary permission to pursue finding a group.
Commissioners also discussed Memorial Day table options, and perhaps to work with the same
group they had last year as it was very well received and very welcoming to veterans attending.
Mary will reach out to this group as well.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Mobley made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Dean seconded. All members
voted in favor; the meeting was adjourned at 11:10am.
