Regular Meeting
November 14, 2012

Minutes: October minutes were approved.
Fen Clean Up Recap: Glenn reviewed the project. He said there was a great turnout, good weather, the DNR
provided good support and everyone worked hard. The Commission could do it again next year because the DNR
staff seemed eager to partner again on a project. The DNR also asked if the City could help promote future
events. The commission discussed potential future involvement with the fen and the consensus was that having
projects in the spring and the fall is doable and fits well into the annual work plan. Doing more would require too
much time and commitment from the commission.
Environmental Excellence Award: Jill reported that there were no applications received this year in spite of the
increase in promotion. The commission discussed the program with one commissioner proposing that the
program be tabled. The majority decided to discontinue the program.
Arbor Day planning: The commission discussed the 2013 Arbor Day planting project. The commission thought
it would be nice to move around to different parks each year. It was suggested that a popular park or a well used
neighborhood park be selected. A couple of commissioners suggested North Lotus Park. Jill said she will talk to
Todd Hoffman who can discuss it with the Park board and a park can be selected with both commissions' input.
Jill will give an update at the December meeting.
2013 Work Plan: Keith proposed that a formal idea list be created for next year's work plan. He thought the
projects seem too random. He suggested that everyone write down ideas for 2013 and submit them to Keith who
will then compile them for the December meeting. The process will be for each commissioner to submit any and
all ideas on Google Drive or directly to Keith by Dec. 1, Keith will compile a list, the list will be reviewed by the
Commission at the December meeting and select projects to include in the 2013 work plan. Keith will send out an
email to the commission with the Google Drive information and directions for idea submission.
