"Unofficial" Notes:
GRANTS: Talked about the need to apply for specific projects/needs. Ideas:
1) Physical Resources: new screen-printed table cloth for shows/expos (Keith has picture); Weed
Wrench & misc buckthorn removal supplies (gloves, Bingo daubers/Roundup?, shears)
2) Student Intern: volunteer database development, Waterwise Program, etc.
3) Specific projects: Buckthorn removal, shoreline restoration, community clean-ups, etc. Grant money
could pay for PR, t-shirts, supplies, refreshments.
4) Educational workshops: Irrigation efficiency/adjusting automatic systems; Tree Tour, Natural Lawn
Care, Rain Gardens, Noxious Weed ID & Mgt
5) Reaching kids in the community: getting speakers in schools to discuss topics; student liaisons from
HS; school environmental challenges; help promote community opps for kids like Envirothon, community
clean-ups, community service opportunities
--Matthew ill review and write draft of grant application for Cynthia Krieg Grant due
September 26. While this grant has to do with water quality, the commission should consider priorities
for future project funding, perhaps by anonymous vote?
EE AWARD FLYERS_We will each print off 5 copies to post at various locations:
stores/groceries, public buildings, nurseries/green landscaping, legions/bars/restaurants, etc. Email
commission when you post one, Amy will keep list.
NEMO "Conservation Design Principless&Practices for Local Leaders" WORKSHOP -
Shorewood Community Center, 9/5, 5-9:00 p.m.: YES: Amy, Keith; NO: Katie, Glenn; MAYBE:
Denny, Matthew. Register online by August 31 at www.northlandnemo.org (look for the
registration button on the homepage).
BUCKTHORN REMOVAL EVENT- Seminary Fen (Glenn, Lead)
--DATES: Saturday, 8-noon, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10 or 17. Email Glenn with top 3 choices.
--Promoting under "Friends of the Chanhassen Environmental Commission," with DNR rep(s) to
supervise. Open to council, other commissions & public.
--Will remove small buckthorn (pref with roots) and pick up trash at site.
--Look into getting supplies/donations???
--Potential to make into annual fall event

--Discussed who to invite, unofficial consensus was just us (but bring take-home containers!)
